2003-2004PEI, one of the many programs that the PPO funds through parental dues, is a PPO committee whose purpose is to bring to our parents speakers and programs that address topics related to raising high-school children. Our first program of the year (Dec. 3) was "How Our Children - And We - Learn Best," a presentation by brain-based learning consultant Richard Piazza.
On Wednesday, February 5, the Parent Education Institute (PEI) sponsored a presentation and discussion of "Parental Expectations: How Much
Is Too Much?" Dr. John Grieco, Superintendent of Schools for the Bergen
County Academies, explored how we parents might
effectively evaluate our academic expectations of our children and how we can
determine what expectations are realistic and beneficial.
Our final PEI event of the school year (March 31, 7:30 p.m.) will be "The Nuts and Bolts of College Planning and Paying," a presentation by Brother David Van Hollebeke of Manhattan College. More information will follow, but mark your calendars now to hear these dynamic, engaging, and informative speakers!
Past topics have included learning to let go, substance abuse, morality, financial planning for college, and the college selection process. |
