GENERAL PPO MEETING
Tuesday, APRIL 5, 2005 7:30PM
The first general meeting of the PPO members in 2005 was called to order by PPO president Nancy Lagomarsino on April 5, 2005, 7;30 pm.
The meeting was preceded by separate Junior and Senior Class meetings. The Junior class meeting was led by the Junior parent liaisons and faculty advisors. The Senior Class meeting was held by Project Graduation committee chairperson Debbie Goodlof.. Parents at these respective meetings were given information regarding upcoming events for Juniors and Seniors and asked to volunteer.
At the general PPO Meeting, President Lagomarsino introduced the current budget and asked whether there were any comments. None were made.
Lagomarsino then announced that the PPO 2005-2006 Nominating Committee had submitted names for next year’s PPO Executive Board.
The following is the slate of candidates for one-year terms:
Elections for the PPO Executive Board for the 2005-2006 school year will be held at the next general meeting on Tuesday, May 31, 2005. Additional candidates may be nominated by any PPO member in good standing at the general election and will be added to the slate at that time. Only paid PPO members can vote for next year’s Board.
Lagomarsino then introduced Principal Pat Cosgrove who briefly spoke to the general audience about current and upcoming events and accolades.
The audience was then asked to separate into groups in order to participate in the annual BCA “Fishbowl” discussion. This discussion was facilitated by student members of BCA’s peer leadership organization, SPARK.
This year’s topic was stress and teens. The format for the “Fishbowl,” which was originated at BCA by the late Dr. John Grieco, is as follows: a seated center group of approximately 12 people including students, surrounded by an outer circle of seated students and parents. The inner circle responds and comments to conversational prompts by the mediator. Those in the outer circle who wish to speak must tap a member of the inner circle who then must surrender their seat.
The discussion took one hour and several issues regarding raising teens were expressed. All discussions in this format are considered confidential. The meeting was then adjourned.
The next general meeting of the PPO was announced as 7:30PM, Tuesday, May 31. This will be the last meeting of the school year and will include not only elections for next year’s Board, but also the All School Award Assembly.
