Bergen County Academies PPO General Meeting, November 9, 2004

PPO President Nancy Lagomarsino welcomed parents began the meeting promptly at 7:30pm.

Lagomarsino presented the latest budget which included some changes because the International Dinner receipts from the previous year had not been received until recently. There were no questions from the audience.

Lagomarsino thanked Amy Chong and Roseanne Colletti-Harris for their work on the 2004 International dinner which had approximately 600 attendees.

The audience was told that printed family directories would be distributed soon to paid PPO members only. Lagomarsino thanked Sabrina Ganz, Nick Roan, Karen Sanchez, and Sheik Kamar for their work on the database from which the directory is based.

Class Liaisons and Guidance Counselors were also thanked for having put together class activities including the evening’s schedule.

Lagomarsino then introduced Principal Pat Cosgrove who told the audience that the video clips played on the screen prior to the meeting were from the school’s recent Halloween assembly where administrators, faculty and students entertained the school.

Cosgrove also introduced Berni Lynn Koch, Vice President of the school’s Board of Education as well as a parent of a former BCA student. Koch spoke briefly saying that she wanted to reassure parents that “business will go on as usual” following the untimely death of Superintendent Grieco. Koch also announced that the campus would be renamed in Grieco’s honor and that notification of the name change would be sent home soon.

Cosgrove continued with other school announcements:

• a recycling program has been instituted with bins in each classroom as well as cafeterias, and faculty rooms.
• In response to a parent request, a study area would be set aside Monday through Fridays from 4:30-6:30pm in the downstairs student center as a place for athletes to go in between school and practices/games to do homework and stay safe after school.
• The Common Area would be redone soon with new computers, DVDs; a smartboard; and a presentation area. Hopes are to start this renovation over winter break.

Lagomarsino then called for the general meeting to be divided so that grade-specific meetings could continue. Sophomore and Junior parents were directed to attend Guidance Department meetings in the Gym and Auditorium respectively. Freshmen and Senior parents were directed to the Common Area and Grill respectively to attend Class Activity meetings.
